Our personal, sometimes deepest, pixellated thoughts are spread out on the table giving readers of all ages, all opinions, all the access in the world to read your dreams and convictions. As a teenager did you want someone to read your diary? I myself didn't want someone to read "Joe likes Jane teehee" or "I want to go to Pluto" (Pluto was a planet, maybe I'll get to that some other time).
So why, now that the internet grants unlimited insight, do you want people to? Why, now that you've become more mature, do you allow people read what you type? Why now?
I have two theories:
- People subconsciously aim to be liked. People build relationships everyday. Whether talking to people, making fun of them, or ignoring them, relationships are built everyday. Now, why would you continue building a relationship with someone who isn't going to be in your life forever? People tend to push away those closest to them. Your family will be by your side. Will your coworker be there? Sure, if you built a good relationship with him/her. So why let your coworker, or a random person you may never meet, read your blog, but not your father? My answer is that you want to be accepted--you want to build a better relationship. By allowing that random person to have insight in your life, you're opening doors that were once shut. Your doors are usually always open with your parents. People just want attention.
- People don't feel like paying for a psychologist to analyze their thoughts, so they let random people read about them and jump to their own conclusions. It saves money, and aggravation.
And if you didn't understand the title of this blog, it's a play off of Charles Darwin's book "Origins of the Species by Means of Natural Selection" that advanced the idea of adaptation, thus the advancement from diaries to blogs.

That's awsome. I completely agree. Even just 2 or 3 years ago I wouldn't have wanted anyone to read the story of my life, but now I'm posting if for people I don't even know to see.
Keep writing and I'll keep reading.
How insightful!
I can't keep a regular diary, but i'm doing quite well on here. I think people do it to get an opinion from someone they never have to meet in person.
Also I don't ink blots don't mean anything either!
tweet.
xxxx
no i hated people reading my diary but according to my sister it was totally readable. If we write well and have great ideas, why keep it to ourselves?
my reason for blogging:
sharing.
Hello and welcome to the blogging world.
Firstly, I agree with your theories in all counts. In this day and age, it seems so vital to be listened to, liked and accepted.
However, one more thought for your theory box... ...and it's the main reason for me starting my blog (although if you ask me on a different day, I'll probably give a another answer) and that is to share my life experiences with others and be eductaed by others' experiences. The one thing that blogging does provide, is a means to communicate and reach out to people from so many different nations, cultures and classes.
Anywayz, I like the start of your blog and look forward to reading more!!
I totally agree. That's exactly why I started blogging.
Evry blog is born out of at least two things: narcissism & exhibitionism. We all wanna see ourselvs reflectd, & we all wanna be seen by othrs.
But WHY, OH WHY, are 999 out of evry 1,000 blogs these lame-ass diary blogs? Wheres th CREATIVITY? Wheres th NOVELTY? Its as if fokes figgr, "If its about ME, its gotta be intresting!" Or, more likely, its that no one wants to blog, if bloggins gonna require EFFORT. "What shall I write about? Hmmm ... Alls I can think of is what happmd to me today. Yeah .... Thats it!"
Fokes blog simply because they can. Theres no standard needin to be met othr than th standard of "whatevr."
Evry blog is born out of narcissism & exhibitionism. But that dont hafta be the WHOLE OF IT, fokes!
Very impressive thoughts. I look forward to reading more of your insights.
PS: I love your blog name and your custom header!
Totally agree. People want attention. Need attention. Need to be known. To have something in the aimless digital darkness respond to their existential crisis of being one of billions who will never be famous, rich, recognized as important, or recorded in the history books.
Or, they just want something to do besides watch crappy reality TV...
your blog is just nice.Even i keep diary but never shown to the world like this.Good work

i keep on thinking how were you able to disclose ypurself to anyone on this world...courageous enough you unquestionably are..i'm 22 yrs old and you know what, of course, i've rizenably gone through your current stage.
something like longing for a bettah fam'ly,a perfect boyfriend or girlfriend,(for others, BOTH!), hellishly cool circle of friends...but can't have it and only heaven knows...(oh why, oh my!)and here comes this F_ckin' SENTIMENTALITY...and you tell the world about it all...as if everyone shall get sympathetic or emphatic about your feelings...
girl, i might sound sour.
but, let us see, after a couple of years...i hope you wouldnt laugh at yourself for wut you are doin' now...
anyways, i enjoyed reading your blog, though it wasnt so comfy..right, joeyplanski?
i dont think its about becoming more open as you get older and more mature, it is about not being embarassed or fearing judgement, if you can be anonymous and only share your personal thoughts and feelings with people you dont actually know. i wouldnt dream of giving any of my friends a link to my blog, simply because they would know the people and situations i talk about on there. also, there are people who would be disgusted by some of the thoughts i have, and i cant risk my friends feeling like that.
also, i dont know if its about wanting attention, or if its just theraputic to get things out of your system. it depends whether or not you really seek people to read your blog.
Hey - thanks for visiting my blog!
And the reason I think most people blog: it's therapeutic. :o)
